Corolla
The town of Corolla is the northern most paved town in the Outer Banks. The Currituck Lighthouse is located in this town and thousands of visitors make their way up highway 12 each week in the summer to experience the tranquility of this secluded beach town.
Corolla has great beaches with several public access parking lots throughout the town. When it comes to finding unique shells and good surf, most people think of Hatteras, but Corolla has some great sandbars that offer consistent barrels for waves and the remoteness to find some of the best conch shells and sea glass.
Also, the town provides opportunities for a fun vacation beyond the beach. There is a healthy mix of family-friendly and high-end shopping and dining experiences in Corolla. Wild Horse Tours, mini golf, go karts, the Currituck Lighthouse, and nature trails are all options in Corolla!
Investments in Corolla, NC
There are several neighborhoods in Corolla that contribute to it being one of the most sought after towns among investors and second-home owners. The building standards and HOA’s that are present in Corolla neighborhoods make sure that all of the properties are very presentable and safe. Most neighborhoods have pools, tennis, and other amenities. Some even have a trolley system to take you to the beach! Be sure to check HOA fees and what you get from those dues. Corolla has more affordable houses on the west side of the highway that may not have the strongest rental numbers but would make excellent second homes. It also has thousands of ocean-side properties that do rent very well, but for a short season (Memorial to Labor Day). Corolla, generally speaking, has one of the shortest seasons which allows for ample owner usage and time to update a property. In the winter, many shops and restaurants will close down for months which contributes to the shorter rental season. When looking at projections, make sure companies are not projecting income for December-April (excluding Christmas week).
It is also worth mentioning the possibility of the construction of the Mid-Currituck Bridge. This bridge would connect Corolla and mainland Currituck and would decrease traffic time from Virginia by over an hour. If construction of this bridge gets put into action, then you can bet a surge in house prices will be in the forecast!
